the Name Eeva Lani

Hey all! in response to the question about Eeva's name... Eeva is Hebrew for "Life" it is a popular Finish name. The two E's together make an AY sound so her name is pronounced Ava. Her middle name is Hawaiian for "heaven" and you pronounce it Loni because in Hawaii the A makes an O sound and the I makes the E sound... Poor kid I know... she will be explaining her name for the rest of her life. But believe me when I tell you it was chosen Just for her and the circumstances surrounding her existence.

I think it's a beautiful name! Yeah, she'll have to explain it, but who cares.

Is that AY like a long I? Or AY like a long A like Day?
:o)

Hi! My wife and I just had a baby girl on the 18th of July. We named her Eeva Nicole... My wife had a dream and that's the way she was told we should spell it. Two weeks after she was born, I found out that that was a common name in Finnish. The only reason I'm commenting is the striking resemblance of your Eeva and our Eeva!

I hope you don't mind my comment on your blog, but my husband and I are having a baby in March and live in Finland and are considering the name Eeva. I tried using one of those internet baby polls and many people were negative about the name, which made me a bit sad...But, then I find your blog and see photos of your beautiful baby! I feel more confident to trust my instincts and go with Eeva, even if the American side of our family might find it a bit different at first. Thanks! Kate

My wife had a dream 3 months before our baby was born wherein she was told to name our baby Eeva. (At the time we didn't know that's how to spell it in Finland.) When people hear the name they think it's pretty, and then when they see how it's spelled, they think it's unique, and they are intrigued by the dream story. The first time my dad saw it written, he asked if it was a spelling error (as will some of your American relatives), but everyone in the states will definately think it's original and creative. My wife also likes that in english there is no doubt that it is a long "ee" sound. :)
